During the preparation of the Tankred Dorst's theatre play I, Feuerbach the magical element of theatre begins to spill over from the stage into life and the boundaries between the play and ordinary reality gradually disappear. From the disputes between the characters of the drama grows the conflict between the actors who portray them and all the work on the production seems to be undone. But the theatrical story becomes a cinematic one. The film is able to accommodate both the line of theatrical fiction and the line of real life. What emerges is a picture of a world in which people of different generations pass each other in a fatal way, in a situation where no artistic boss or god is watching, instructing, or judging their ability or inability to understand and agree with each other.
