The film, which explores a personally difficult stage in the life of Czech diplomat and politician Jan Masaryk, takes a close look at the Munich Agreement (which annexed portions of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany) and the period preceding WWII. Masaryk, who was the Ambassador in London, disappeared from public life and broke off contact with political colleagues and friends. Trampled down by the weight of long-term obligations and the expectations of others, he sought escape in alcohol, drugs and self-torment.
