The film impressively depicts the experiences of a Greek boy who, in 1948, finds a second home in Czechoslovakia. After being forced to leave Greece during the civil war, he is raised in Brno by his Greek grandparents. Years later he returns to Brno in order to transfer his grandparents’ remains back to his beloved Greece. The now grown-up man visits places locked away in childhood memories. Such places seem suddenly remote but they still evoke concrete images of a childhood now dominated by his dead grandparents – the wise and beautiful grandmother and the naively patriotic grandfather, as well as by school, his friends, and his first loves. This kaleidoscope of the past presents an emotive portrait of one person’s adolescence, and also serves to elucidate his fundamental difference from others despite the fact that he grew up in Brno.
