The elements ruling the Earth – Wind, Fire, Earth and Rain – are on their “regular inspection tour.” Traversing the country dressed like a poor woman, the Rain Fairy learns that love and goodness are disappearing and that people have become greedy. They are embodied by a landowner named Mr. Greed. His son Andrew loves Lily, but she comes from a poor cottage and Greed can’t stand seeing their love expressed, as that emotion promises no riches. When he orders the locals to chase the poor woman out of the village, only Lily offers her shelter from the rain. The elements demand strict punishment. The Rain Fairy asks the Sun to allow her to punish the people herself and the Sun agrees. The land becomes dry and barren; there is nothing to harvest, the wheat stops growing, the hay is almost burnt… But don’t worry – goodness and love will prevail in the end, as they do in every good fairy tale.
