CERN or The Factory for the Absolute is a documentary film about the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, located on the French-Swiss border. With the help of this accelerator, scientists want to simulate the conditions shortly after the Big Bang. As a result, they hope to obtain fundamental information about the composition of matter and to learn the last mysteries of the universe. Prior to the first LHC beam circulation in September 2008, we explore and explain a number of serious questions, such as the historical foundation of the CERN institution, the experiments and their anticipated results, and the project's technological challenges. Of course we also discuss the possible risks of these activities that are reigned by human hybris. This unique documentary film is Jan V. Sacher’s thesis film from the documentary department at FAMU in Prague and is planned as part of a long-term observational documentary project about CERN and the LHC experiments.
