“Singles are men and women aged 25–40 who live without a long-term relationship. They are financially independent and have single-person households,” says one of the opening titles by way of explanation. Director follows in the film six typical representatives of this lifestyle. Structured into four episodes, this mosaic depicts the protagonists’ attempts to find permanent partners and their solitary habits. The documentary peers into the private lives of the protagonists and eventually grows into a multi-layered testimony of their actions, opinions and characters. The documentary about people without partners is a probe into human relations in present-day Czech Republic, a contemplation of diverse forms of hope and disillusion. It deals with sexuality, causes of infidelity, reasons for divorces, and transformations of traditional partnership and family models.
